2017 Positive Thoughts Jar

Happy New Year!   Are you one of those people who look at the New Year as a fresh start?  If so, you are not alone.  It is estimated that about 45% of Americans make New Year’s Resolutions which equates to about 146,395,428 people.  Wow, that is a lot!

So what’s your New Year’s Resolution?  Is it lose weight, get a new job, think more positive?

My New Year’s Resolutions are to be healthy, achieve my desired weight, continue blogging and keep thinking positive thoughts.

If you’ve not already started, now is a good time to keep a jar of all the positive things you wish for yourself and loved ones.

I meditate every day in the morning before I start the day and at the end of the day before I go to bed.  Every morning, I read all my positive notes that I wish for myself and loved ones.  Here are just a couple examples what goes into my positive thinking jar:

  • I have great joy and inner peace
  • I will make $xxxx in 2017

One of my favorite quotes is from the movie, Forest Gump where he says, “My mama always said . . . life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.”

Life is the same . . . you never know what it will bring you.  It can bring you great joy and great sorrow and how you look at things can make all the difference in the world.  If you think more positive thoughts . . . the health benefits are amazing.   Just check out the benefits below of the power of positive thinking in an article published by the Mayo Clinic (if this isn’t enough to start thinking positive . . . I don’t know what is:)).

  • Increased life span
  • Lower rates of depression
  • Lower levels of distress
  • Greater resistance to the common cold
  • Better psychological and physical well-being
  • Reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease
  • Better coping skills during hardships and times of stress

In closing, I hope you make 2017 the best year ever!  Here’s wishing you a year filled with health, happiness and thoughts full of positive thinking!

  1. Debbie you are a bright light and example for those of us you befriend. Years ago I started a “God Can”. It’s a can with a slit to put paper in. When I didn’t know how I could deal with or help a situation, I wrote it down on a slip of paper and put it in my God Can. I have not ever opened the can, maybe one day.

    1. Thank you, Denise! That is so sweet of you! I love the idea of a “God Can”. I will definitely create one myself!

  2. Happy New Year Debbie! I am not a big “resolution” maker but I do look at the new year a kind of a reset button. Time to start over or start fresh in certain areas of my life or do things a little differently. Positive thinking is definitely listed on my “try harder” list this year. What is find difficult is not letting others negativity affect your positivity 🙂 I look forward to reading your blog in the new year!

    1. Happy New Year, Jenn! I agree, it is definitely difficult to not let other peoples’ negativity affect you. That’s one of the reasons I say my “affirmations/mantras” every day in the morning to help me be positive in the face of “adversity” during the day.

  3. Here’s to better health with less stress! Happy 2017!

  4. Inspirational! Thank you for reminding me to take time to shut out the negatives and replace with positive thinking!
